Glaucoma

Many people have glaucoma and don’t even realize it. Why is that?  It is because in the vast majority of cases Glaucoma has no symptoms. Your eyes do not hurt. They do not appear to be red. You don’t notice that you’re losing vision.

Glaucoma is, however a chronic disease. What this means is that any vision that is lost to glaucoma is not recoverable.

This is precisely why if you are at risk for developing like, it is essential that you have an annual comprehensive eye examination with dilation to ensure that glaucoma is detected at the earliest possible stage.

Who is at risk?

  • People over age 40
  • African Americans
  • People with diabetes or hypertension
  • People with a family history of glaucoma.
